Dr. Brandes is board certified in Family Medicine. She earned dual degrees in Chemistry and Education from Kansas State University. She taught high school Chemistry and Physics for two years before pursuing her medical degree. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed her Family Medicine Residency at University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita (Wesley). Dr. Brandes practiced full spectrum Family Medicine, including obstetrics, for many years first in Wichita, Kansas and then in Cheyenne, Wyoming where she moved to accept a faculty position. She had faculty appointments at the University of Kansas and the University of Wyoming. Over the years, Dr. Brandes has practiced in small hospitals in Wyoming as a locums physician in the emergency department and as a hospitalist as well in small Kansas towns as an ER physician. She has been on the staff of the Cheyenne VA since 2009 working as an emergency physician and hospitalist prn. Currently, Dr. Brandes continues to work at the VA as a hospitalist and as a medical director at BCBS of Wyoming where she endeavors to improve the health of their members through a variety of clinical initiatives. She continues to live in Wyoming with her husband and 2 Bernese Mountain dogs.
